There are many analysis applications for 3D datasets

Improved processing techniques allow high positioning accuracy to enable appraisal by engineers and asset owners.

GNSS processing is performed on each sensor’s data, to correct for environmental factors such as multipath, before the final processing phase, which is carried out in point cloud processing software.

  • Multibeam bathymetry pre-processing is performed in Hydrographic processing software. Post-processed positioning solutions and sound velocity corrections can be applied before exporting to point cloud processing software.

  • Mechanical scanning sonar pre-processing is carried out using Hydrographic processing software. Individual sonar settings used during acquisition can be altered, such as the Intensity threshold.
  • Laser scanner pre-processing is achieved using LiDAR processing software. Post-processed positioning solutions can be applied, before exporting to point cloud processing software.

The individual sensor’s point clouds are then cleaned to remove noise

Final rendering can use attributes from the source sensor’s data; for example, Laser data is typically rendered using the beam intensity value. The final point cloud can then be partitioned into separate areas if required.

There are many applications for 3D datasets, beyond building digital twins, including:

  • Change monitoring for sediment mobility.

  • Under Keel Clearance.

  • Volume Calculations to support dredging operations.

  • Scour and erosion monitoring.

High Resolution Scanning Sonar with damage detection capabilities approaching LiDAR

Using a high frequency scanning sonar, it is possible to image features down to 4cm. This allows for damage such as cracks or impact damage in walls can be identified and measured. Instances of damage can then be catalogued and monitored for long-term asset management.

Our online data portal enables you to quickly find and select the area of interest, which can be viewed and interrogated in the cloud.

We can provide our Client with authorised access to the process data via our Scanning E-Portal. Intuitive to use, authorised users can access and further study the data.

Key features include:

1) Detailed panoramic view

Each scan position offers a 360 degree panoramic view including all the recorded details. Numerous viewing modes such as multi-layer overview maps, 3D views and panoramic scan views provide an impressive visualization and easy orientation even within most complex project data.

2) Access for Authorised Project Members

Authorised users can access the original 3D scan data via our Scanning E-Portal and further study the data using SEP’s Web Portal. Immediate access to the latest 3D reality data ensures all collaborators operate with the identical level of knowledge without time delays.

3) Intuitive Use

Webshare can be used intuitively: An overview map enables you to quickly find and select the required scan point, which can be activated by double-clicking on it. Each scan includes transition points to the neighbouring scans. It is therefore easy to switch from one scan position to the next at a click of the mouse.
